Get Baptized

Ready to Take Your Next Step With Jesus?

The Bible teaches that when we're ready to put our faith and trust in Jesus, the next step is to repent and be baptized!

We get it, baptism may seem strange. If you want to learn more, you can check out this message about baptism. We've also compiled some answers to commonly asked questions below!

Baptism is more than a symbol or religious ceremony. It is a moment of faith in which we surrender to God's gracious work.

In baptism, we are immersed into Christ, united with Jesus in His death, and raised with Him into new life. The Bible describes baptism as something God does in us, not something we accomplish for Him.

“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead… we too may live a new life.”
Romans 6:4

Grace is God's gift. Faith is our response.

The New Testament shows people responding to Jesus by:

BELIEVING
Entrusting Jesus with their lives.

REPENTING
Turning away from sin and turning toward God.

CONFESSING
Declaring that Jesus is Lord.

BEING BAPTIZED
Being immersed into Christ and raised to new life with Him.

And then we keep following Him.

Because Jesus calls His followers to be baptized.

Before Jesus sent His disciples into the world, He told them to make disciples, “baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” — Matthew 28:19

When the Gospel was first preached after Jesus' resurrection, people asked Peter what they should do. His response was simple:

“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ…”
Acts 2:38

Baptism doesn't mean you've figured everything out.

It means you're trusting Jesus.

You don't need to know everything about the Bible.

You don't need to have every question answered.

And you definitely don't need to get your life cleaned up first.

The question is much simpler:

Are you ready to trust Jesus as Lord and follow Him?

If your answer is yes, baptism is the biblical next step.

No.

We cannot earn salvation through baptism—or through anything else we do.

Salvation is a gift of God's grace made possible through the death and resurrection of Jesus. We receive that grace through faith.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith… it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Ephesians 2:8–9

At the same time, the New Testament doesn't separate faith in Jesus from responding to Him. Baptism is part of that faith response: trusting Christ, repenting, confessing Him as Lord, and being immersed into Him.

We don't get baptized to earn grace.

We get baptized because we're entrusting ourselves to Jesus and His victory.

The baptisms we see in the New Testament involve people being immersed in water.

But immersion also beautifully communicates what baptism means.

We go beneath the water, identifying with the death and burial of Jesus.

We are raised from the water, identifying with His resurrection and the new life He gives us.

Buried with Christ. Raised with Christ. Walking in new life.

See Romans 6:1–7 and Colossians 2:12.

If you were baptized as an infant, that was likely an important expression of your family's desire for you to know and follow Jesus.

At LifePointe, however, we see baptism in the New Testament as the response of someone who has personally put their faith in Jesus and chosen to follow Him.

If you have questions about your previous baptism, we aren't interested in dismissing your story or pressuring you into a decision.

We'd love to talk with you, open the Bible together, and help you decide your next step.

You don't need to keep getting baptized every time you struggle, sin, or enter a new season spiritually.

But sometimes people realize that an earlier baptism happened before they understood the Gospel or before they personally chose to trust and follow Jesus.

If that's your story, we'd love to talk.

The goal isn't to convince you to “do baptism again.” The goal is to help you understand what Scripture teaches and respond faithfully to Jesus.

The Bible doesn't give us a minimum age.

Instead, we look for a person's ability to understand and personally respond to the Gospel.

Can they understand who Jesus is?
Can they understand sin and grace?
Can they personally place their trust in Jesus?
Are they choosing to follow Him?

For children and students, we'll come alongside both them and their parents to help discern whether they're ready.

You don't need to be baptized by a staff person or elder.

Jesus gave His disciples the mission of making and baptizing disciples. Because of that, another follower of Jesus can baptize you.

That could be a parent, friend, LifeGroup leader, Next Steps Guide, ministry leader, or someone else who has helped you follow Jesus.

We'll help make the moment meaningful and make sure you have everything you need.

Baptism isn't graduation from following Jesus.

It's the beginning of a life of following Him.

At LifePointe, we describe a disciple as someone who is:

Following Jesus.
Being changed by Jesus.
Committed to the mission of Jesus.

Jesus continues changing us over time through:

THE SPIRIT OF GOD
Learning to recognize His leading and respond in obedience.

THE WORD OF GOD
Opening Scripture so we can know Jesus and allow His truth to reshape us.

THE PEOPLE OF GOD
Growing alongside other followers of Jesus instead of trying to follow Him alone.

THE MISSION OF JESUS
Learning to love, serve, share the Gospel, and eventually help others follow Jesus too.

When you're baptized, we'll help you take those next steps.

Whether you're completely ready to be baptized or you're simply trying to figure out what you believe, we'd love to have the conversation.
